Firstly, I need to apologise for the belated A Gay Girl’s Guide To Blogging post for this week – I have a few posts almost completed in the drafts folder of the blog, but unfortunately I’ve been having issues getting these blogs finished. This is mainly due to not having a decent phone, or a laptop – because of course, as soon as one thing breaks, everything breaks!
Back in December, on my way to the train station to travel down to London to see a client and then head home for Christmas, I dropped my (very large and very expensive) phone onto the pavement. The screen, which was already a little scarped around the edges, cracked. However, the touch-screen still worked, and if I squinted, I didn’t even notice the crack running from edge to edge. However, when I dropped it again a few weeks ago, the screen shattered, and the touch-screen completely died. (Completely my own clumsy fault.) Annoyingly, getting the screen replaced is going to cost at least £150, so since then, I’ve been using an old phone of Stacey’s – which receives emails, and connects to Twitter, but that’s about it!
Of course, in addition to killing my phone, my laptop has also fallen into a level of unconsciousness which I’m unable to rouse it from – I had a bad feeling about it when the charger started sparking, but it has now reached a point where it won’t turn on at all. You would think that as someone who sits in front of a computer all day at work, I’d quite enjoy this break from constant-connectivity – but it’s been hell! I haven’t been able to comment on any of my favourite blogs, all Facebook messages have gone unanswered and I missed a Skype call with my mum. Technology has not been my friend this month.
Add on to this the fact that I somehow managed to pull the leg off of my only pair of glasses (which I am fairly blind without!) and you can see my frustration at why these annoying things all happen in threes! Whilst my dad has (very, very kindly) bought me a new laptop as a belated Christmas gift (which should arrive soon, and mean I can stop blogging in my lunch hour!), I still need to pay to have my phone screen replaced, and buy a new pair of glasses – which will be another expensive outlay!
I really feel like I shouldn’t touch anything at the moment – not only did out fridge freezer break and need to be replaced back in December, but this week our dishwasher has packed in as well! My mum has always been of the opinion that bad things happen in threes, and I’d never really believed her – but this month has been a nightmare, especially when I’ve been trying so hard to save money for our future-house! Has anyone else found that bad things happen in threes? I just can’t wait to get my new laptop, my phone fixed and hope that February is a lot less damaging – to my possessions and to my bank balance!Carley
